Hoping to get custody of the businessman who had allegedly been raping his teenaged daughter for a few years now, police in Gurgaon have spoken to the victims mother and arranged counselling sessions for the victim who is said to be deeply traumatised.
Police say they need to question the businessman he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Friday,a day after his arrest after the victim told the principal of her school that she was being sexually abused, allegedly by her father.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal said all police stations have been issued guidelines for such cases.
Even for a medical examination,I have asked women police personnel to accompany the victim. If required,a senior woman police officer will also be present. We have made provisions that the victim does not have to come to the police station very often. In this case as well, advocates and police officials are in touch and counselling is being provided to her, Mittal said.
The victim is a Class XII student of a leading Gurgaon school and her family lives in an upmarket condominium. From what police have been able to gather so far,it appears that she was first raped when she was taken to Haridwar by her father when she was in Class IX. It is alleged that he used to take her abroad on his business trips and assault her. The girl complained to the principal when the father was planning another trip to Dubai.
Police are not sure if she was his only victim. We need to question him, seek details. That is why we want his custody. For now,he has been sent to judicial custody, a police officer said.
The victims mother has declined to speak to the media. Worried, she has requested privacy, saying the family was going through a tough phase.
Ever since the arrest, the family has virtually locked itself in the sprawling penthouse they live in,said a resident of the condominium complex. According to the resident, there were three children in the house other than the couple. The family appears well-to-do and uses four vehicles, including two SUVs.
A police officer said the businessman has an export house. Though the name of the company suggests that it deals in metals, the businessman had been dealing in food grain, the officer said. A relative told police that the company had a turnover of a few hundred crore rupees.
