Pune: Economist Dr Sulabha Brahme passes away

Dr Sulabha had founded the Shankar Brahme Samaj Vidnyan Granthalaya that became a centre for left, progressive and secular tendencies in Pune.

NOTED ECONOMIST, Marxist intellectual and social activist Dr Sulabha Brahme passed away after a brief illness at her residence on Thursday morning. She was 84. She is survived by brothers – noted environmentalist Dr Madhav Gadgil and Purshottam Gadgil.

Daughter of D R Gadgil – Former Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission and social worker Pramila Gadgil, Dr Sulabha had founded the Shankar Brahme Samaj Vidnyan Granthalaya that became a centre for left, progressive and secular tendencies in Pune. She co founded many platforms to further causes like economic development, environment, organic farming, secularism and such.

A condolence meeting will be held on December 4 at the Rashtra Seva open hall, Sane Guruji Smarak Parisar at Sinhagad road.
