Uttarakhand was today brought under President’s rule by the Centre on grounds of “breakdown of governance” in a controversial decision which comes in the wake of a political crisis triggered by a rebellion in the ruling Congress.

President Pranab Mukherjee signed the proclamation under Art 356 of the Constitution dismissing the Congress government headed by Harish Rawat and placing the Assembly under suspended animation this morning on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.

Ahead of the crucial floor test on Monday, Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal is expected to announce his decision today on the fate of the nine Congress rebel MLAs who joined hands with the BJP to topple the Harish Rawat-led government. The rebels, including former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna, are likely to be suspended from the House under the anti-defection laws and the Congress might prove their majority despite the House strength coming down to 62 seats.

Fresh from defeating the Congress candidate Sanjiva Reddy and ensuring the installation of VV Giri as the President of India with the active support of the communists and also by splitting her own party , Prime Minister Indira hi imposed President's Rule in UP in 1970, even though the floor test was due within two days then. The Congress Party has laid down several precedents during its rule of over sixty years, so it is difficult even for BJP to overlook or ignore those precedents. Why should the Congress Party and its esteemed leaders protest for following the precedents laid down by them?

True to Congress tradition, Harish Rawats Government is also involved in mive corruption and environmental destruction. The destruction of the geologically fragile and highly eco-sensitive regions of the state with rampant deforestation, slope cutting, blasting of rocks, haphazard disposal of debris, riverbank constructions had enhanced landslides during 2013 flash flood and deluge that washed away roads, bridges and other infrastructure. The YSR family and Bellary Reddy brothers had abused the entire democratic system with legitimate corruption, terror tactics using Maoists, illegal mining and RedSanders smuggling mafia. The "party with a difference" failed to take action against the mining mafia in the state and they were promptly booted out of power. The snow-covered Himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand are among the Biodiversity Hotspots. Places like Dehradun, Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Almora etc attracts lots of tourists. We need to protect these beautiful places from the influence of Land Mafia and Real Estate Barons
