Hours after Subramanian Swamy levelled allegations against RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, the Congress demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the BJP MP has targeted “one of the most outstanding economists in the world”. “It is most unfortunate for Swamy to have made this statement publicly and some ministers of this government have said that this is not the view of present government….. the present RBI Governor is one of the most outstanding economists of the world and so recognised and respected worldwide,” senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said.

“It is the duty of the Prime Minister to make a public statement and apologise for what his party member has said about RBI Governor,” he added.
