Even as the Enforcement Directorate on Friday questioned Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Jalandhar in connection with its probe into alleged money laundering in a multi-crore international drug racket case, his brother-in-law and Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal defended him.

“Who do you trust more? A criminal or a government? We bust a drug gang, one of those arrested accuses a minister and everybody believes him… nobody is talking about the good work we did in busting the gang,” said Badal during an Idea Exchange programme at The Indian Express on Friday.

Referring to alleged kingpin Jagdish Bhola, a dismissed DSP of Punjab Police who was arrested in November last year, Badal said: “That person is a known hardcore criminal. It was only six-eight months after his arrest that he gave this statement accusing the minister (Majithia). Now political parties are taking advantage of a criminal’s statement.”

Badal added that suitable action would be taken if the charges against Majithia are proved. Stating that the SAD-BJP government had busted many drug rackets in its seven-year rule, Badal alleged that he had made many enemies who were now trying to corner him with such allegations.

“We have been most proactive in catching those involved in drugs, and now we are being blamed. If we were supporting drugs, we wouldn’t have arrested so many people,” he said, adding that as many as 75,000 people had been arrested in Punjab under the NDPS Act in the last seven years.

Badal claimed that the drugs were coming from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and neighbouring Rajasthan. “Why should any state earn money by ruining other states? We are the sufferers… how can you blame us?” he asked.

Significantly, the SAD also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi today to “direct” the Rajasthan government to “ban sale of opium as Punjab was suffering due to the Rajasthan government’s policy to earn profit from sale of this commodity”.

SAD leaders said it was unfortunate that the Rajasthan government had given licences to over 17,000 opium vends, and that this opium was being smuggled into Punjab. “This is causing social unrest in Punjab and needs to be addressed immediately,” said the party in a statement.

My opinion - Badal is the drug dealer of Punjab, defending his brother in law who has been caught doing some of the drug related work for Badal. Badal claims that he has done good work in apprehending drug dealers however, he has not come to justice for his involvement within the drug trade... Badal is a dirty politican ruining Punjab, winning votes by providing drugs to civilians so they can get a free fix and vote for him... You people in India who vote for this are so stupid that your putting Punjab in a deeper of that we won't be able to get out of... Why are there no god roads in this country, a country that has a billon people working and producing products... I have lost hope in India for becoming better, for those of Indian nationalities escape while you can before the government eats you up and spits you out...

Bikram Singh Majithia is son/gson of Sardar Surjit Singh Majithia in Nehru Cabinet was Deputy Defense Minister. If what most of peoples say in Punjab that smuggling of Narcotics from stan were being done with his his and Sukhbir Singh patronage, there should be some truth. Whenever you detect smoke there had to be a small/big fire too.I think, Supreme court Suo- motto take up this case and appoint SIT under CBI or under its own jurisdictions. Truth must come out. Today Punjab rural area is sitting on big "NARCOTIC VOLCANO " If not properly checked, it could erupt and its lava shall destroy not only Punjab but most part of Haryana and Rajasthan. It is NARCOTIC ELOBA.

Sukhbir has only been proactive in draining Punjab to build and expand his ill gotten business empire worth billions of dollars now.He pers Punjab and yet the so called brave Sikh still keep voting for him.Of course he will sell Punjab to save his villainous brother in law Majithia who brazenly swore select Punjabi abuses in the embly. No wonder Bdal sahib's kakaji is behaving like Punjab's jamaai raja;aka Robert sahib.
