Smriti Irani’s ‘qualification’ sparks war of words, BJP asks ‘what about Sonia?’

The appointment of TV actress-turned-politician Smriti Zubin Irani as the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister has sparked a war of words among many, including leaders of both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). And though this war, like many others, began on twitter, it is not confined to it any more.

The latest to join the wagon is new Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti, who has hit back at the critics of Irani, primarily Congress members, questioning the qualification of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to mediapersons after taking the charge of her ministry, Bharti said, “What was the qualification of Sonia Gandhi that she directed economist PM Manmohan Singh? Sonia should tell her MPs to keep quiet or give her own qualifications.”

Earlier on Wednesday, another BJP leader, Santosh Gangwar also hit back at the Congress, saying, “I want to ask Congress how educated Sonia Gandhi is”.

This attack by the ministers in the Modi government came amidst a series of attacks and counter-attacks on twitter over Irani’s HRD portfolio. Here are a series of tweets on the twitter war:
