Scoffing at the BJP government’s move to rename the Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana after Mahatma Phule, the Maharashtra Congress Wednesday accused the BJP of playing “cheap politics”.

Despite frequent barbs from the Congress and other Opposition parties, the BJP has continued its policy of repackaging and remodelling schemes implemented during the previous regime.

The Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana, a health insurance initiative, has been appreciated in Maharashtra. In another matter, Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan also alleged that certificates issued in August 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for rehabilitation of project-affected persons of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust land in Navi Mumbai was “just for show”.
