Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary, who was sworn in as an MoS on Sunday, said on Monday that he was yet to take stock of his new role in the Home Ministry. However, he added that he was ready to tackle every challenge to India’s internal security.

The minister, an RSS worker from Gujarat, also outlined his priorities for his constituency — building toilets — and spoke of his long association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I have known Narendra Modi for more than 20 years. I have worked with the PM earlier and he has always stood for good governance,” said Chaudhary, a former diamond trader. He said he was one of the most senior BJP members from Gujarat. Regarding his new role, he said, “I am yet to meet my senior Rajnath Singh. I am yet to know what I will be doing, but whatever the challenges for internal security, they will be handled appropriately”.
