Rakesh Garg made Telecom Secy in Modi govt’s first bureaucratic rejig

Katoch gets additional charge of Secretary, Heavy Industries department.

In the first major bureaucratic reshuffle in the Narendra Modi government, senior IAS officers Rakesh Garg and Jugal Kishore Mohapatra have been appointed as Secretaries in Department of Telecommunications and Department of Fertilizers, respectively.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also cleared the appointment of Women & Child Development Secretary Shankar Agarwal as Urban Development Secretary.

Enforcement Director Rajan S Katoch has been appointed as Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industries. A Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer of the 1979-batch, Katoch will also look after the duties of the post of Enforcement Director in addition to the charge of Secretary (Heavy Industries) for a period of six months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent as Enforcement Director, whichever is earlier.

Sanjay Kothari, Secretary in Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, has been appointed as Secretary in Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), according to official orders.

The ACC has also cleared the appointment of IAS officer Vinay Sheel Oberoi as Women and Child Development Secretary.

IRS officer Archana Ranjan has been appointed as Special Secretary-cum-Director General of the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau under Department of Revenue against the existing vacancy.

Sanjay Kumar Panda will assume office as Textile Secretary once current Secretary Zohra Chatterji retires on July 31.

Gujarat cadre IAS officer Hara Krushna Das will now be Secretary, Inter-State Council Secretariat under Ministry of Home Affairs while N Ravi Shanker will be the new Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances and Secretary, Department of Pensions & Pensioners’ Welfare.
