Andhra Pradesh unit BJP president K Hari Babu on Sunday asked leaders of TRS and Congress to refrain from making provocative statements over the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha.

The passage of the bill in the Lower House recently  has paved the way to aid the construction of the ambitious Polavaram project.

Addressing a press conference here, Hari Babu said that the project was very much important for Andhra Pradesh as it will bring more land under irrigation.

Taking a dig at Congress over the passage of the bill, Haribabu said that the ordinance to club seven mandals from Khammam district of Telangana had in fact been brought by the erstwhile Manmohan Singh government.

“It is wrong on the part of senior Congress leader from Telangana, S Jaipal Reddy to oppose clubbing of seven mandals (under the bill) because as a minister he did not oppose the ordinance which was passed by the Cabinet,” he said, adding that Polavaram project will not only benefit Andhra Pradesh but also Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The BJP leader termed as “unfair” the opposition to the bill by TRS on the ground of its constitutional validity.

“It’s unfair on the part of TRS leaders to say that passing of the AP Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill under Article 3 was unconstitutional as Telangana state has been formed under the same article,” he said.

Harp on illegal and risky Bachawat award on polavaram Orissa legislators of all political parties are playing with the lives of 3 lakhs tribals who are likely to be displaced due to illegal and hazardous polavaram dam. The dam is under designed by using a very low value of 36 lakhs cusecs for peak flood, as ordered by the Bachawat tribunal comprising only lawyers and not expert irrigation engineers. According to expert the peak flood will be 3 times higher and stands at 96 lakhs cusecs.Bachawat award is illegal and dangerous originally the project was designed in 1970 as a barrage only, because the experts wanted to avoid sub-mertion of lands in Orissa and Chhattisgarh and the barrage report for polavaram was submitted to the tribunal on 7.8.1970. But vested interests among corrupt politicians and officials wanted more commissions from the project contractors who for their profit forced the Government to change the barrage into a giajantic dam at a huge cost. Since a big dam is going to store 200Tmc of water behind polavaram dam and when its breaks a huge wall of flood will washout hundreds of villages, and several towns, causing deaths of 60 lakhs of people and 20 lakhs of cattle, resulting in economic damage of 4 to 5 lakhs crores of rupees and drive the country into economic Bankrupty Oriya people also have to face this economic burden along w3ith other Indians. Since the Bachawat tribunal has given an illegal award it can be changed through negotiations as cited in Para 120 of the tribunal report the dam can be modified into a multiple barrages scheme as proposed by farmer chief engineer of Andhra Pradesh Sri T. tha Rao. Since the report was disliked by the central water commission the Orissa chief minister may get it modified and present it to the central Government for their approval. All the people of Orissa must hagitate for changing the killer polavaram dam into a beneficial multiple barrages scheme.
