Former Infosys CEO and UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, who has been going about setting the ground to become the Congress candidate for the Bangalore South constituency in the forthcoming parliament polls, will become an official member of the Congress in New Delhi shortly, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara said here on Saturday.

“Very soon he will be joining the Congress party in Delhi in the presence of senior leaders,” the KPCC chief said. Nilekani has been tipped to be the Congress candidate in the Bangalore South constituency and has, over the past month, been interacting with local Congress leaders who will play a crucial role in garnering support for the former IT czar in a battle against the BJP’s shrewd tactician H N Ananth Kumar.

“Once he joins the party, it formalises his candidature,” Parameshwar said. The state Congress president reiterated that a final decision on fielding Nilekani would be taken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
