Following his anointment as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has said that he would leave no stone unturned to work for the victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Thanking his well wishers and supporters on Twitter, the BJP PM candidate said that the country would fight against corruption and price rise in the General Elections next year.
Modi posted a tweet saying,”I assure Karyakartas that I will leave no stone unturned to work for our victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.”
“I seek your blessings to free our nation of turbulent times. In 2014,India will fight price rise, corruption & support development & Suraaj,” he further said.
In his message on Twitter, the Gujarat Chief Minister also reached out to the NDA allies and media, thanking them for their “blessings” and “good wishes”. “I thank our allies of the NDA for their blessings and friends in the media for their good wishes,” said Modi.
This came after the BJP on Friday finally declared Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.
The announcement marked a significant powershift in the 32-year-old party as it did not have the backing of L K Advani,a party veteran and one of its founders. Advani was opposed to Modi being named as the party’s PM candidate ahead of the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh,Rajasthan and Delhi, due later this year.
The decision to project Modi was taken at a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board which Advani skipped as a mark of protest. And key leaders at that meeting who decided to brush aside the patriarch’s reservations belonged to the second generation of the party that had been nurtured by Advani Narendra Modi,Rajnath Singh,Sushma Swaraj,Arun Jaitley,Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar.
Earlier on Friday, veteran party leader L K Advani made all attempts to discourage party president Rajnath Singh from going ahead with the decision. However, his attempts could not deter the move, following which he shot a letter to Rajnath Singh, expressing his disappointment on the same.
Reacting to the development, the Congress claimed that the RSS had forced the BJP to take the decision on Modi. In a tweet on Saturday morning,Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said,”BJP succumbs to threats of RSS and Ramdev and declare Modi as BJP’s PM candidate. Do we still call RSS as a Cultural Organisation?”
