BSP general secretary and a close aide of party chief Mayawati, Satish Chandra Misra, Tuesday called on All India Muslim Personal Law Board chairperson Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi at Lucknow-based Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama.

Though the seminary remains non-political, the visit comes just two days before ten seats in Muslim-dominated areas of western UP go to polls on Thursday.

In 2009, the BSP had won five of these 10 Lok Sabha constituencies, including Muzaffarnagar and Kairana, which witnessed communal riots in September last year.

After the half-an-hour long meeting with Nadwi, who is also the rector of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Misra said that it was not a political visit and he had gone to seek blessings of the cleric.
