Prime Minister Manomhan Singh was non-committal on allegations that Lalu Prasad had fudged figures to claim that Railways had earned a record profit of Rs.90,000 crore during his tenure in the previous government.
Asked about Lalu’s claims which were contested by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee,Singh told reporters on his way back from Italy that he has not gone into the issue in detail.
“The Railway Minister has said that a White Paper will be brought out on the issue. So I hope the White Paper will throw light on what is the reason, why it has happened and what can be done,” he said.
Banerjee had while debunking Lalu’s claims stated that after meeting all the expenditure, the Railways were left with a surplus of just Rs.8,361 crore.
