“Please don’t serve me arhar dal, lauki and two chapatis till the results are declared,” former chief minister and BJP candidate from Pauri Lok Sabha seat B C Khanduri instructed his cook, Ramchandra. Khanduri, 79, returned to his official residence here from Pauri on May 8 after a gap of four months. “Arhar dal, lauki and two chapatis three times a day. I was fed up. So, I have asked my cook to serve anything but these,” Khanduri said.
He added that it was necessary to stick to this diet in order to avoid stomach problems during campaigning in the hills. Khanduri used to travel 150-200 km per day to meet voters in his constituency. Pauri LS constituency is spread across 14 assembly seats.
Khanduri suffered back pain and was hence, confined to his house on May 9 and 10. “I did not meet anyone for two days. My wife had some health problems too,” he said.
From May 11 morning, Khanduri started sitting in his office at his residence. He first read invitation cards and letters sent by acquaintances, relatives and friends. “I could not attend functions like weddings during the past four months. So, I have sent letters to all those who had invited me,” he said, adding that he has gone back to his regular habit of reading newspapers and magazines, and watching TV news.
Khanduri has already held a meeting with BJP in-charges of assembly segments falling under Pauri seat. “There’s positive feedback from every booth. I hope the results will be in my favour,” Khanduri hoped. On Wednesday, Khanduri’s team had returned to Pauri.
