CPM in Kasargode district observes bandh against murder of activist

CPI (M) district leadership alleged that BJP was behind the murder, but that party refuted the charge.

CPI (M) in Kasargode district is observing a dawn-to-dusk hartal in protest against the murder of its activist on Monday evening.

CPI (M) activist P Murali, 37, was stabbed to death by a four-member gang at Seethangoli in the district. Police said while Murali was pillion-riding, the gang waylaid his two-wheeler and stabbed him several times. He later died in a hospital. The assailants had tried to attack his friend Manjunath, but he escaped unhurt.

Murali had been one of the alleged accused in the murder of a BJP worker Dayanad in 2001. But, trial court had acquitted him. However, Murali had faced attempt on life twice in the past.

CPI (M) district leadership alleged that BJP was behind the murder, but that party refuted the charge.

Police have beefed up security in the area.
