Actor-turned-politician and MP from Agra Raj Babbar has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the ruling BSP for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by organising caste based conventions in Uttar Pradesh.

“We have received a complaint along with photograph of such convention in Agra from MP Raj Babbar and a report has been sought from the city’s district magistrate in this regard,” additional Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said on Thursday.

Babbar, who is contesting election as Congress candidate from Fatehpur Sikri parliamentary constituency, had alleged that the BSP organised a convention of Lodh,Nishad,Kashyap and Binda communities on March 8 and a Jat Bhaichara sammelan on March 18 in Agra, which was a clear violation of the poll code.

The MP also claimed that the government machinery was misused during these conventions.

Presence of government officers in these conventions raise doubts on holding free and fair elections in the state, the complaint stated.
