BJP starts alliance talks with INLD

Badal met BJP president Rajnath Singh and its PM candidate Narendra Modi separately in the Capital.

In a move to bolster its electoral prospects in Congress-ruled Haryana, the BJP is learnt to have begun pursuing a pre-poll alliance with Om Prakash Chautala’s INLD. The move has got a push from NDA partner Akali Dal’s leader Parkash Singh Badal.

Badal, a close friend of the Chautalas, Saturday met BJP president Rajnath Singh and its PM candidate Narendra Modi separately in the Capital. Earlier in the day, he had met INLD leader Chautala in the hospital.

“Badal is a votary of an alliance with INLD,” said a party leader. A party source said the BJP has also activated backchannel negotiations with INLD, and party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has met INLD leader Abhay Chautala over seat negotiation.
