Congress president Sonia Gandhi Friday dubbed the BJP communal and warned if it is voted to power, people will suffer. “BJP seeks to destroy unity and harmony in the country by creating a communal divide. It believes in violence. The country will suffer, and we all will also suffer if the BJP is voted to power,” she said while addressing election rallies at Baripada and Balasore.
She said BJP did not have any principle and commitment, and wanted to divide the people on communal lines, besides asserting that only Congress can keep the nation united.
Sonia also came down heavily on the Naveen Patnaik government, saying Orissa remained poor despite having rich mineral resources. She said the BJD did not implement food security act and provision for payment of bonus to farmers.
As many as 4,000 farmers had committed suicide under the BJD rule in the state, Sonia alleged.
Sonia alleged that farmers in Orissa were deprived of irrigation facilities, while the BJD government provided river water to big industries. She also highlighted an alleged Rs 500 crore scam in MNREGA and Rs 2,000 crore scam in mid-day meal programme during the BJD regime.
