Scoffing at all speculation of an alliance against the BJP among the Congress, Trinamool Congress and Left, the CPM on Tuesday categorically said such an alliance was neither being discussed nor possible among the parties.

It was Sitaram Yechury, CPM politburo member and Rajya Sabha MP who gave this clarification at the birth centenary celebrations of CPI leader Bhupesh Gupta. The event was attended by leaders of 16 Left parties at Moulali Yuba Kendra in Kolkata.

“There is no proposal for an alliance of secular forces among the Congress, the CPM and the Trinamool Congress nor such an alliance is possible… there can be a constructive co-operation among us in Parliament but it will be too pre-mature to talk about an electoral alliance now,’’ Yechury said at the sidelines of the conference.
