A day after the BJP named Smriti Irani its Amethi candidate, she became the target of mockery from the AAP’s Kumar Vishwas. He told reporters it doesn’t matter “whether Irani comes, Pakistani comes, Italian or American comes… Amethi has already decided”. He added, “Rahulji is a political actor and Amethi is tired of actors… now another actor has come.
Irani hit back saying too much “leverage and importance is being given to Kumar Vishwas”. PTI quoted her as saying in Delhi, “I do not expect an iota of respect from him, especially being a woman. He has a history of being disrespectful towards women. That has been the topic of conversation in many channels.” She dismissed his candidacy: “I will only say that the contest is between the Congress and the BJP and not with any B team of the Congress.”
Vishwas too dismissed her. “My sympathies are with her,” he told The Indian Express. “She had declined to contest four days ago and she has been forcibly sent here; she has an enemy within the party.”
