AAP trying to vitiate peace ahead of Lok Sabha polls: BJP
Condemning the attack on its office, BJP on Monday accused Aam Aadmi Party of attempting to vitiate the environment ahead of Lok Sabha polls and urged the Election Commission to take note of it.
“I strongly condemn the AAP’s violent protest at the gates of BJP office today in Delhi. It shows AAP’s undemocratic and anarchist character,” BJP President Rajnath Singh said.
BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “AAP has displayed anarchy and violence on the day election has been declared in the country. They are trying to disturb and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the country which could affect free, fair and peaceful conduct of polls, which is the hallmark of democracy.”
He said, “It is the duty of the Election Commission to check that the party to which it has given recognition recently is not ready to accept the Constitution, democratic values, the law of the land as well as the Model Code of Conduct.”
Naqvi accused AAP of being “the gentle face of Maoism” and said they think they are a law unto themselves.
“They are trying to hijack democracy through anarchy,” he charged.
Rajnath Singh said on twitter, “Being a responsible political party the BJP does not believe in anarchy and violence.”He also appealed to the BJP workers across the country to stay calm and peaceful.
Talking about AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who was detained in Gujarat after the Model Code was enforced with the declaration of Lok Sabha poll schedule, Naqvi said some people think they are a law unto themselves.
“For any programme that has to take place during the Model Code of Conduct, prior permission of the Chief Electoral Officer has to be taken, which Kejriwal had not,” he said, adding no one is stopping Kejriwal from seeing the development that has taken place in Gujarat.
AAP workers today fought pitched battles with BJP activists outside the saffron party headquarters here hours after Kejriwal was detained briefly in Gujarat.
Kejriwal also accused Modi of trying to stall his visit to Gujarat after he was briefly “detained” by police and said he did not find any evidence of development claimed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
