Opposition parties have forgotten about days of Emergency: Venkaiah Naidu

The comments came after some opposition leaders alleged that Modi and the RSS were trying to impose "one idea" on the country and that the PM was unilaterally making all the decisions. The remarks were made during a meeting on the occasion of 94th birthday of veteran politician M Karunanidhi in Chennai.

Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday hit back at opposition parties for accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “authoritarian”, saying they had “completely forgotten the dark days of Emergency” clamped by Indira Gandhi. Naidu, who holds the portfolio of information and broadcasting, claimed that as more leaders of opposition parties were “getting trailed for their deeds of corruption”, they were finding the prime minister authoritarian.

The comments came after some opposition leaders alleged that Modi and the RSS were trying to impose “one idea” on the country and that the prime minister was unilaterally making all the decisions. The remarks were made by the opposition leaders during a meeting on the occasion of 94th birthday of veteran politician M Karunanidhi in Chennai.

Naidu claimed the level and quality of such criticism revealed the unbridgeable disconnect between those parties and the people of the country. He said it showed the mounting frustration of opposition parties over the growing appeal of the prime minister among the people and steady political expansion of the BJP since 2014.

“While accusing the prime minister of being authoritarian, these leaders have completely forgotten the dark days of Emergency clamped by former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The dubious theory of Indira is India and India is Indira…,” Naidu said in a statement. He also claimed that there was “denigration of the dignity and authority of the institution of the prime minister during the 10 years of the UPA rule” and a “gross abuse of power for personal and family gains during the Congress rule. What is more amazing is that the communists seem to have forgotten all the hoary past under the Congress and their own rule. This amnesia could only be explained by their getting rolled out of the country’s political canvas,” he said.

Naidu said the the prime minister has certain authority given by the people to do the needful to make a difference to their lives. “Modi is only making full use of that authority in all responsibility to make a difference to the lives of the people,” he said. Modi’s “decisive and courageous” use of such authority was already evident in the way corruption was being wiped governance was being improved and people being made in development planning and execution, he claimed. He said Modi from the day one in office has been stressing on making the people partners in policy making implementation.

Naidu said there was a difference in a Prime Minister being assertive and being authoritarian. “Modi is an assertive prime minister for sure and that what the people of the country would like him to be. He can never be authoritarian as he has no personal agenda unlike the others the country has seen,” he said.

Referring to rules relating to regulation of the sale of cattle, Naidu charged opposition of “indulging in a disinformation campaign”. The minister said the Kerala High Court has rightly asked where is the ban and pointed out that the order restricted sale of cattle at the markets. He said the government never interferes in the food habits of people as it is their personal matter. “The opposition is issue-less, frustrated and demoralised and hence indulging in disinformation. We (NDA) are united, they are divided, we are confident, they are diffident,” Naidu said.

BJP should remember that in the recent elections for lok sabha in which they won a majority ,they only got 30 of the vote.Note, NOT EVEN 50 .The majority 70 didn't vote for BJP.And yet we are constantly told how ALL of INDIA is with Modi.Syncophancy is the new norm in BJP,a party of strong traditions of inner democracy.Their limited pool of talent is indicated by the fact that jaitley is in charge of 3 major portfolios, finance, defence and corporate affairs besides fighting his own personal cases with kejriwal. How can he do justice to his work with such a workload. Compared to BJP,Congress has a strong bench of individuals of experience and knowledge. Chidambram, although a lawyer ,is able to in simple language explain the logic of his policy and could quote relevant figures without reference to a sheet.Mr jaitley on the other hand relies on his trusted formula"I don't think this".There is no reasoning, only a simple request to have faith in his judgement of finance.

Before it was a declared Emergency. The checks and balances of the cons ution were removed. However to her credit she removed it after a short time on her own! Today we still haven't reached that stage, where anyone can be put in jail, especially opposition leaders. But nevertheless we are not a functioning democracy.Parliament is being bypassed by bills being passed as finance bills. The recent ban on of cows, bullocks would cause loss of millions of jobs and businesses. This law wasn't even discussed in Parliament. These sudden changes in policy don't create any confidence in the business community, domestic or international a indirect way you are encroaching on state powers and restricting what people may eat.We are not all Hindus in India,so why should we impose Hindu eating habits in the rest.At the time of writing the cons ution ,greater minds decided not to impose any ban on eating of beef. The BJP now with its limited talent is changing that by bypassing Parliament.

This only shows his stupidity level because Rahul compares the PM post held by Man Mohan Singh who was MOUNI Singh and danced to the tunes of Sonia, Rahul and Vadra whereas without any authority these persons had taken the decision whereas now PM Modi takes the decision and show his authority and still Rahul thinks the corrupt UPA is ru to take orders from them and thus frustration makes him to speak like nonsense !!!
