FINANCE MINISTER Arun Jaitley on Thursday said journalists were focussing only on the painful aspect of demonetisation, ignoring the hard work involved in implementing it.

“Chhupi huyi currency bahar aana badi baat hai (The coming out of hidden currency notes is really commendable). Without any kind of unrest, this decision is being steadily implemented across the country,” he said at a seminar organised by the BJP.

He said while the entire country has accepted demonetisation, the political class and journalists were having a hard time accepting it.

“Neta aur media waale nahi badle, iske alawa desh mein sab badal gaya (Politicians and mediapersons have not changed. Otherwise, everyone else in the country has changed),” he said.

On the economy, he said, “Once the remonetisation process is completed and the economy gets back to full speed, the size of the GDP will expand. Money coming to banks will be used more fruitfully for the benefit of the economy.”

Earlier, addressing the ‘Make in Odisha’ conclave, Jaitley said the country has remained one of the finest islands of growth world over.
