Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the parivartan rally in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, via phone call as his helicopter was unable to land due to foggy weather condition. This is the fifth parivartan rally by Prime Minister Modi in Uttar Pradesh as part of the BJP’s campaign for next year’s assembly elections.
PM Modi was the national general secretary of BJP when he visited Bahraich in 2001 for the first time and later in November 2013 for the second time.
PM Modi has earlier addressed four parivartan rallies at Ghazipur, Agra, Kushinagar and Moradabad. His next rally is scheduled to be held in Kanpur on December 19.
The Bhartiya Janta Party is running a campaign led by party president Amit Shah, eyeing victory in the state. It had earlier won an unprecedented 71 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, the party failed to perform in Bihar elections and won only 53 out of 243 seats.
Uttar Pradesh holds paramount importance in Indian politics because it is one of the most populous states in the country and can influence the Lok Sabha election results.
