LOCALS BLOCKED roads in Muzaffarnagar’s Fugana area on Friday protesting against the alleged murder of a 19-year-old girl, whose body was recovered from the fields late Thursday.
While the family of the girl alleged that she was raped, police said the postmortem report has not confirmed the same. The girl went missing from her house on Wednesday evening. She had left home to search for goats but did not return. The family later lodged a missing complaint with the police on Wednesday night.
As her relatives were searching for her, she was found in a sugarcane field with injury marks on her body and a slit throat. Suspecting that she had been raped, her relatives protested by blocking the road with the body. “They wanted the SSP and DM to be called to the spot and immediate arrest of the accused,” said a police officer.
Fugana police SHO Rajeev Gupta said: “An FIR of murder has been lodged against unidentified accused. While rape has not been confirmed in the postmortem report, we have detained some suspects for interrogation.”
