An explosion was reported on Tuesday inside the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district. News agency ANI reported that more than six were injured in the explosion. The blast occurred in a general coach of the train between 9.30 AM and 10 AM when it was on its way to Ujjain from Bhopal near Jabdi station, Railway PRO, Indore, Jitendra Kumar Jayant was quoted as saying by PTI. He added that the injured were admitted to a hospital in Kalapipal town of the district.

The state government has announced Rs 25,000 compensation for the injured and Rs 50,000 for the critically injured. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told news agency ANI that he is observing the situation personally. The SP and the District Collector are at the spot, he added.
The glass panes of the windows in the general coach were damaged because of the blast, which occurred when the train was about to reach Jabdi Station. Following the blast, the train came to a halt. Smoke engulfed the general coach, causing panic among the passengers who rushed out to save themselves.
The Railway PRO said that a probe is on to ascertain the cause of the blast, adding that a relief train is on its way to the mishap site.
There are unconfirmed reports of the blast having triggered from a suitcase. It could also be a mobile phone having exploded inside the train. News18.com reported that senior railway officers, intelligence officials and anti-terrorism squad have left for the site of the blast to ascertain the cause.
