Militants shoot dead cop in heart of Srinagar

Attack at a time when CRPF is in the process of removing more bunkers from the city.

At a time when the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to remove more CRPF bunkers from Srinagar,unidentified gunmen shot dead a police officer in downtown city today.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhpal Singh was shot from close range near the Safakadal area in Srinagar around 10 am today. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a search to find the militants responsible for the attack.

The CRPF is in the process of removing more bunkers from the city. Last week,they removed one of the oldest bunkers from Chinkral Mohallah.
