A day after Digvijay Singh described Anna Hazare as “a mask of all anti-Congress parties”,Team Anna today hit back at him for levelling “wild and baseless allegations” and asserted that their movement had “nothing to do” with any political party.

Addressing a public gathering at Arya Nagar here,Hazare aide Arvind Kerjiwal theirs was “not votebank politics, but politics for the people” and lashed out at those who were trying to create an impression that their movement had the backing of the RSS and the BJP.

“These are wild and baseless allegations and there is no truth in them. Our movement is a people’s movement and we want it to remain so. Our main agenda is to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed and continue with our fight against corruption. We have nothing to do with any political party,” he said.

Team Anna’s campaign has picked up momentum after the arrival of Kejriwal and another activist Manish Sisodia here two days back and they have been holding meetings across Hisar parliamentary constituency urging voters not to support the Congress in the bypoll for its “failure” to bring the Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament.

“Some people say we are doing politics. We have been saying from the beginning that we are doing politics, but it is not the votebank politics, but politics for the people,” Kejriwal said in an apparent retort to Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh’s statement yesterday.

He said till the time the Bill is not passed in Parliament, their agitation will continue.

“Anna Hazare is a mask of all anti-Congress parties… Anna always says he is not in politics but I have been told,BJP offered him all-party presidential candidate in 2012,” Singh had claimed at a function in Agra.

On Congress candidate Jai Prakash, who is contesting the October 13 bypolls from here,Kejriwal said they did not have any personal enmity with him and their fight was to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed.

He also suggested that Jai Prakash leave the Congress and join their movement.

Congress has fielded three-time MP from Hisar,Jai Prakash (58). He is pitted against Haryana Janhit Congress-BJP alliance candidate,Kuldeep Bishnoi (42) and main opposition INLD’s Ajay Singh Chautala (50).

With opposition targeting the Congress on the issue of corruption and numerous scams that have rocked the UPA,the Anna factor has added to the party’s woes ahead of the polls.

Team Anna members have been criss-crossing the constituency distributing CDs of Hazare and holding public meetings, urging people not to vote for the Congress as it has failed to bring Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament.

Team Anna targeting Congress not correct: Santosh Hegde

Bangalore: Team Anna member Santosh Hegde today disapproved of Hazare’s anti-Congress stance in the Hisar bypolls, saying campaigning against a political party is not correct.

Speaking to PTI here, the former Supreme Court judge said every political party has “good and honest people” and targeting an outfit as a whole is not correct. He said he is opposed to such an idea (campaigning against a party).

“The (use of) word Congress is wrong according to me. But to campaign against a corrupt person or group of persons (is fine) — not a party… certainly not a party… because every party has good people… honest people,” the former Karnataka Lokayukta said.

Hazare has appealed to the electorate in Hisar not to vote for Congress and other parties who have not given letters assuring their support to the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Hegde also expressed the view that Team Anna jumping into electioneering scene in Hisar would not ipso facto undermine the credibility of the anti-graft movement of Hazare whose agitation has brought the corruption issue to the centrestage.

“I think it would have been better if they had not mentioned a political party’s name,” said Hegde, whose report on illegal mining cost B S Yeddyurappa his chief ministerial chair in July.

On Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal’s statement that Congress is playing politics and trying to crush the movement,Hegde said he would not name any political party.
