With over 100 deaths being reported since January in Kerala due to various types of fevers, the government on Sunday appealed to the people to join the government’s mass sanitation drive on a war footing. According to Health Department sources here, as many as 103 people, including women and children, have succumbed to various types of fevers including H1N1, leptospirosis and dengue from January till date.

Of the total 103 deaths, 53 people have died of H1N1 and 13 due to dengue, the sources said. Breeding of mosquitoes due to piling of waste was considered to be prime reason for the spread of fever and other communicable diseases, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, adding social hygiene was essential to keep diseases at bay.

“Political party activists, representatives of local self government institutions and members of socio-cultural outfits and clubs should take part in the sanitation drive on war footing,” he said in a statement.

Stating that the government had already stepped up its sanitation drive with the support of local people, Vijayan said fever cases have reduced in those places where waste management and mosquito control measures have been implemented effectively.

He said the government had ensured enough stock of essential medicines and the service of doctors in all government hospitals.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala visited Vijayan at his official residence here today and submitted a memorandum with some suggestions to tackle the crisis.

He alleged that 117 people had died due to fever in the state since January. At least an average of 20,000 persons are arriving at state hospitals seeking treatment for fever.

“Youngsters and children are succumbing to viral fever” and there was emergency situation, he said. Chennithala also said the health department had failed miserably in containing the fever and blamed state Health Minister K K Shylaja for not rising to the occasion.

Refuting the charges, the Health Minister said the opposition was trying to take political mileage over the situation. A united effort is needed to overcome the situation, she said in Kochi.

Eda brahmana patti Vnk.All those who fell sick are filthy brahmins who went to RSS TERRORISTS sponsored purification ceremony by sprinkling COW U R I NE and eating a handful of BULL S H I T. They all attended purification ceremony hoping that their 3500 year sins committed by their species gets washed away. This they assumed will pave way for a brahmin sponsored govt in Kerala to again commit sins.

Do not talk rubb()ish. All the deceased as well as sick are MEAT CONSUMERS or those living in the vicinity of SLAUGHTER HOUSES / MEAT SHOPS. Govt should seal all 'slaughter houses', 'meat shops' and 'poultries'. Otherwise there is a danger of the virus spreading uncontrollably to unmanageable extent.

Kerala tops in highest PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION of 'alcohol' as well as 'red meat'. Alcohol Red meat is a fatal combination which is a sure invitation of viral diseases, heart diseases, cancer the fatal stroke. Nowadays diabetes, cholesterol related heart problem have become domestic diseases in the country and specifically in Kerala due to this fatal combination.

Dear Keralites, have hartals and murders, everyday. Get "Nokku Coolie", "Attimari" etc. Still, keep saying and justifying you have great work culture. Enjoy life at the expense of Keralites working outside the state including those toiling in gulf countries at 50 degree centigrade. ic political parties (parasites) of Kerala, do you have time for any productive work including working on strategies to remove the waste? Nothing to chose between corrupt Congress, violent and criminal Communists and ultra communal BJP. But the crown of credit for this should rest on the Communists who planted and destro the work culture of Kerala with violent and irresponsible trade union movement. How long you can go on like this? It is high time, capable and visionary people like Sreedharan, Mohanlal, Sreenivasan, Kochaouseph Chittilappilly, P C Cyriac, Yousuf Ali, P G Jayakumar (some examples, I know) and many more like them in Kerala join together to bring out a change. That is the only hope
