Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet colleagues will arrive at Rajaji Hall this afternoon to pay their tributes to the departed leader.
Draped in her favourite green colour saree, Jayalalithaa’s body was taken from her Poes Garden residence early this morning to Rajaji Hall where thousands of party supporters and Tamil Nadu residents queued up to have a last glimpse of their ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Amma’ (Revolutionary Leader Amma).
As the casket carrying the body of six-time chief minister was placed on the steps of Rajaji Hall, in the heart of the city off arterial Anna Salai, four Army men covered it with the national Tricolour.
The state will be in mourning for seven days and schools and colleges will remain shut. The Tricolour across the state has been flying at half mast.
Heavy security has been deployed across the state of Tamil Nadu to prevent any cases of violence that may arise out of the death of Jayalalithaa.
