After successfully completing Masters in English two years ago, 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, who is on death row, is appearing for MA (Political Science) examination in the central jail here.

Memon, who scored 58 per cent in the first year, is appearing for second year exam. He appeared for the first of five papers on March 3.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), under whose aegis he is studying, has provided study material to Memon and five other death row convicts.

“Memon being a high security prisoner, we do not have access to him for personal counselling. We provide him with study material. He is already a chartered accountant, so he can manage by himself”, said IGNOU regional director P Sivaswarup said.

Memon had cleared his MA (English) with a 56 per cent score.
