Villager out to probe ‘rumour’ shot dead,son claims political killing

One person was shot dead and two others injured after being fired at by some miscreants at Pandori Waraich village in Amritsar,police said Monday.

One person was shot dead and two others injured after being fired at by some miscreants at Pandori Waraich village in Amritsar,police said Monday.

While Kulwant Singh died in a hospital,Manohar Lal and Sukhwinder Singh sustained bullet injuries in the incident that took place late Sunday.

Based on a complaint by Baljit Singh,the son of deceased Kulwant,police booked Sonu and one Baba Nalkeyan Wala on charges of murder,attempt to murder and under sections of Arms Act.

“Sonu had allegedly fired from .12 bore gun. The weapon’s license is in the name of his father Ajit Singh,” said investigating officer Sub Inspector Yadwinder Singh.

As per Baljit,his father shot dead due to political rivalry for having voted for a particular candidate in the recently held Panchayat polls.

In his complaint Baljit said he and his father were having their meals when they heard some people shouting that miscreants have attacked the village. They rushed towards an unoccupied village land where the accused starting firing at them and one of gunshots hit his father. He was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital but succumbed to the injury.

SI Yadwinder Singh said no arrests have been made so far and further investigations were on. Amritsar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Manmohan Singh police would also verify who spread the rumours about miscreants attacking the village.
