A day after Vijay Goel said in Rajya Sabha that to solve the problems of Delhi ‘we need to stop the inflow of migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,’ the Twitter community slammed the BJP leader for what it called the ‘Raj Thackeray like attitude.’
According to reports, while addressing Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Goel said, “Every day more migrants come to Delhi. Most of them are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They come here because they don’t have employment opportunities in their states. These migrants settle in slums, which later become unauthorised colonies. If we have to solve the problems of Delhi, we need to stop this inflow of migrants.”.
The inflow of migrants into Delhi needs to be stopped to solve the problems of the capital, Goel said in the Rajya Sabha as the upper house debated the Delhi budget.
He even suggested opening branches of Delhi University in other states to put a check on the migrants inflow. “We can open branches of colleges in other states, as every year several students come in Delhi in lieu of good colleges in their states”.
The social media was abuzz with reactions over Goel’s remark. Here are some.
“Vijay Goel’s statement proves why BJP supports Shiv Sena and Raj Thackrey”, twitted AAP leader Ashutosh.
