More than a month after CM Prithviraj Chavan announced a relief package of Rs 1,935 crore for Vidarbha, the state has been able to disburse only Rs 30 crore so far.
It has now proposed to release Rs 10 crore each to collectors of affected districts immediately.
A cabinet sub-committee under relief and rehabilitation minister Patangrao Kadam took the decision on Tuesday. It will be put up for Cabinets approval on Wednesday.
Of the total relief package announced, the state has requested Rs 2,000 crore aid from the Centre. However,an official from the relief and rehabilitation department said since very heavy rainfall, which took place in Vidarbha,is not listed as a natural calamity, the release of the expected aid from Centre is likely to take some time.
Kadam said Rs 30 crore has been spent for giving compensation packages to farmers who lost their fields, houses and animals.
