The 84th Academy awards and its red carpet Os. Whew! So we (those who have nothing else to do because there is fashion to do) were all eyes as gown after couture gown walked the O Carpet on the taut and tantalisingly made-up bodies of the most watched women of Hollywood. I almost liked Penelope Cruz in her princessy, lavendar coloured Armani Prive till she started speaking, then well, the charm wore off. Is speech a style accessory. Hmm. Need to think for a bit. Till then, here are my bests and un-bests.

Doggie hugs to Uggie, the canine actor of The Artist who arrived on O carpet wearing an 18-carat gold bone bowtie. With his good guy looks,(Bertie Wooster from P.G. Wodehouse turned into a dog),he looked suitably humbled as he went up on the stage as the arm candy of Jean Dujardin, who lifted the best actor trophy.

Another best: Jennifer Lopez, sexy to the hilt in a Zuhair Murad with sheer panels. What is being whispered along as the almost “nip slip” was a wow moment (and few).

Top Un-best to Angelina Jolie for showing her thigh so awkwardly in her Atelier Versace.

Also,as a special O carpet write-in,I invited some of my favourite fashion bloggers to send their best dressed votes. It isn’t surprising then (or is it?) that four out of five chose Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford.

Imsurenla Longkumer of http://www.theaili.com on which she is Imsu Pithsala.

“My favourite would undoubtedly be Gwyneth Paltrow in her stunning white Tom Ford cape gown. I think she nailed the red carpet look from head to toe with a minimalistic and classy approach to her simple yet intriguing ensemble.”

Santu Misra of thedevilwore.blogspot.com

“While Gwyneth is known for doing sexy, this time she went minimal-chic. In a custom Tom Ford dove white gown with a cape (an interesting twist) she looked regal and oh-so-fresh. Brava girl brava!”

Ayesha Nigam of phdinfashion.blogspot.com said: “Gwyneth Paltrow for the sole reason that she took a major fashion risk and wore a cape to the red carpet. The ensemble by Tom Ford, was very elegant and simple, and Paltrow kept it that way with minimal jewellery and a low ponytail. She’s on all the best dressed lists this year because she so different, yet so effortlessly cool.”

Tanvi of tanvii.com

“I thought Gywneth Paltrow looked statuesque in Tom Ford. Understated, classic and timeless.”

Aayushi Bangur of http://www.styldrv.com

“My favourite would have to be Michelle Williams. Not only did she turn heads with her bright Louis Vuitton ensemble but was also on trend with the peplum. She accessorized in a simplistic way with a Bottega Veneta knot clutch,a bow broach at her waist and strand of diamonds around her neck making sure to keep attention on the layered masterpiece. Her hair also added to this look making it super chic. Absolutely stunning.”
