U’khand: 15 killed, 5 injured as bus plunges into gorge

Reports from Chamoli district said the injured are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Gopehswar.

At least 15 people were killed and five injured after a bus fell into gorge near Ghat in Chamoli district on Saturday. The private bus, carrying 23 passengers, was on its way from Rishikesh to Ghat when the accident took place.

District Disaster Management official Nand Kishore Joshi said the bus fell off a steep slope on Nandprayag Ghat motorway into a 300 m-deep gorge, half a kilometre from its destination, at around 12.45 pm.

Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat has announced ex-gratia of one lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. Reports from Chamoli district said the injured are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital in Gopehswar.
