After the arrest of alleged Naxal courier Hem Mishra from Uttarakhand, another alleged “top Maoist frontman” from the state was arrested by the Gadchiroli police from Deori in Gondia on Sunday evening.

“Prashant Rahi (real name Prashant Sanglikar),originally from Nashik, was arrested along with Naxal cadre Vijay Tirki from the busy Deori square on Nagpur-Raipur highway,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (Gadchiroli range) Ravindra Kadam told The Indian Express.

The Aheri court in Gadchiroli sent Rahi (52) to 12 days’ police custody. He has been booked under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

Kadam said: “Uttarakhand Police are on their way to Aheri. Rahi was involved in organising an arms training camp in that state some time ago.”

The court also sent Mishra to another 12 days’ custody. It is learnt that Rahi’s arrest was made on the basis of inputs given by Mishra.

He described Rahi has a very senior CPI (Maoist) man “who is almost on par with central committee members and was in regular touch with them”. “He would also coordinate legal matters with lawyers on behalf of top Maoists,” said Kadam.
