Three, including minor boy, killed in J&K avalanche

Local people said the two women could have been saved if proper medical care were available.

Two women and an eight-year-old boy were among three villagers killed and two others injured after they got trapped in snow avalanche in Mahu Mangat area of Banihal tehsil on Saturday.

Sources said that all the five hailed from Bijnar village and they were on way to Mahu to bring ration. Enroute, they got hit by an avalanche.

While three got buried under snow, the other two had escaped with minor injuries. While the boy had died, the women were brought out alive in seriously injured condition.

However, both later died for want of timely medical aid. The local people held demonstration accusing the local administration of not doing anything to carry the injured to hospital on time.
