Three persons died and two sustained serious injuries when a truck and a car collided head on at Loharu in Bhiwani district of Haryana.
Following the accident,which took place on Loharu-Surajgarh road near Kasni villages bus station,agitated villagers blocked the highway to Jaipur and shut down marketplaces in the area. For four hours,they kept the bodies of the deceased in the middle of the road and demanded stern action against district officials for not being able to prevent a spate of fatal accidents in the area.
The blockade disrupted vehicular traffic on the highway for over two hours. It was lifted only after Sub-divisional Magistrate Mukesh Kumar assured the protesters that proper barricades will be put up on the road and a campaign launched against overloaded trucks.
The deceased have been identified as Rajkumar Saini,Babita Devi and Kaushalya Devi all passengers of the car. Rajkumars wife Triveni and one Pinky,who were also travelling in the same car,sustained severe injuries. Following the accident,they were taken to Jhunjhunu Hospital.
Saini,who was driving the car,was returning home after a pilgrimage in Rajasthan. The car was reportedly hit by an overloaded truck allegedly being driven in a reckless manner. The truck driver is absconding.
