A software engineer was arrested on charges of conspiring to murder her four-year-old daughter and mother-in-law in Thiruvananthapuram rural district. Her alleged paramour was arrested for the murders.

The police said Omana, 67, and Swasthika, 5, were killed Wednesday. They said Om-ana’s son Lijeesh, who is an assistant engineer with the electricity board, was also attacked but managed to escape.

Based on Lijeesh’s statement, the police arrested Nino Mathew, 40, and Anu Santhi, Lijneesh’s wife. The police said both are employees at Dimensions Cybertech(I) Pvt Ltd and were having an affair. DSP Prathapan Nair said Mathew and Santhi wanted to live together and had a “clear intention to murder Lijeesh, his mother and his daughter,”

On Wednesday, Mathew allegedly left his office on the pretext of sorting some financial matters, while Santhi messaged him details of the road leading to her house.

Mathew then allegedly went to Lijeesh’s house and introduced himself as a state electricity board employee who had come to invite the family for his wedding. After he got in, he allegedly killed Omana and Swasthika and stole some gold jewellry.

Nair said Mathew stole the jewellry to make it seem like the murders were a part of a robbery.
