Teacher suspended for molesting girls,police still to register case

A government school teacher was suspended Thursday by the state government for attending the school in inebriated condition and allegedly molesting the girl students.

A government school teacher was suspended Thursday by the state government for attending the school in inebriated condition and allegedly molesting the girl students. However,despite the fact that parents of at least 50 students gheraoed the school and informed the police,the latter were yet to register a case.

The incident took place at Tarkhanwad (Ajitwal) village in Moga district. Reportedly,the teacher,Parminder Singh,36,used to come to school drunk and indulge in indecent acts with girl students of Class 5 or below.

As per the parents,despite several complaints to the school authorities over the past several months,no action was taken against Parminder. The parents’ complaints were not even forwarded to the district education officer.

On Thursday,parents of more than 50 students reached the school after informing the police and gheraoed the school. Later,a police team reached the school followed by DEO,Elementary,Jaspal Singh.

The teacher was arrested and taken for medical check up at primary heath centre,Dhudike,where doctors confirmed that he had consumed alcohol. “He used to foul language and abuses in the classroom and used to touch girls on one pretext or the other,” said a school staff member requesting anonymity.

Parminder was later suspended. “DGSE Kahan Singh Pannu has issued his suspension orders,” DEO Jaspal Singh said.

However,the police are yet to register a case against him. ASI Balbir Singh,Ajitwal police station,who took the teacher in custody,said,“We have still not registered the case but investigations are on.”
