Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has warned of serious consequences if the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) enforces an economic blockade of Kashmir.
“The economic blockade of the Kashmir will have very serious consequences and the situation will be out of control for everybody… A public movement will be started against it, the people will protest this act of terrorism on roads and will make the international community aware about the serious situation of Kashmir,” Geelani said.
On Friday, VHP had threatened to launch a massive agitation and enforce an economic blockade of Kashmir if the state Assembly allowed a discussion to revoke the Act that bans slaughter of bovines and sale of beef in the state.
The CPM, too, has slammed the VHP for its economic blockade threat.
“The RSS and its by-products are hell bent on disrupting the communal and pluralistic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir, and have now started undermining the legitimacy of legislative Assembly,” said M Y Tarigami, state secretary of the CPM.
“The VHP and its ilk should try to comprehend that constitutional matters cannot be sorted out on streets and through threats of economic blockades or hooliganism. Such matters are discussed and deliberated upon in the august house of legislature,” he added.
