Suspected militants fire at vehicle in Shopian, polling officer killed

A polling officer was killed and five people wounded when suspected militants fired at a vehicle carrying poll staff in Shopian.

Police sources say that soon after the polling ended, unidentified militants fired at a vehicle carrying polling staff outside Nagbal, Handew village in Shopian.

They say that a polling officer Zia-ul-Haq was killed in the attack. Haq, a teacher by profession, was a resident of Herpora village of Shopian. They say five more people including two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were also wounded in the attack.
Soon after the attack, police, paramilitary forces and army rushed to the spot and cordoned the village to nab the militants.
