While BJP’s top leadership was brainstorming in Gandhinagar ahead of counting day, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj chose to fly to Bhopal on Wednesday, giving rise to speculations that she is sulking.
The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, however, insisted that the reports of her being unhappy with the party were untrue and that the visit of Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari to her Delhi residence was a mere courtesy call.
While leaving Bhopal airport for her home, she did not betray any bitterness and appeared to be at ease during her brief interaction with the media. He aides later said the visit to Bhopal was scheduled at least four days in advance.
Swaraj, who shifted her political base to Madhya Pradesh a few years ago, met workers from her constituency Vidisha through the day. Her aides said after Vidisha went to polls on April 24, she left MP and Wednesday’s visit was her first to Bhopal since then. “She wanted to thank party workers and local leaders and had invited them to Bhopal,’’ said an aide.
