The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to set up a medical board for reviewing medical conditions of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu for ascertaining whether he should be released on interim bail.

While asking the AIIMS to furnish the report in four weeks, the court also allowed Asaram’s plea for getting certain additional documents summoned by the Jodhpur trial court where he is facing the sexual assault charges.

These documents, according to Asaram, purportedly showed the victim was not a minor and hence he could not be booked under stringent charges relating to the law protecting children against sexual abuse. The court also allowed Asaram to confront witnesses on the issue of victim’s age.
