The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to consider a PIL, demanding a pan-India mechanism to ensure protection of law to people from Northeast and also to prevent racial profiling.

A bench led by Chief Justice P Sathasivam issued notices to the Centre and governments of all states and Union territories, seeking their response to the PIL, which highlighted the death of a Northeast student in Delhi last month.

The court sought the replies within four weeks.
