Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s presence at foundation-laying ceremonies seems to court one controversy after another.

Yesterday,Congress MLA from Ferozepur Parminder Singh Pinki alleged that Sukhbir had failed to invite him to foundation-laying ceremonies in his constituency. Today,Congress MLA Rana Sodhi levelled more allegations against Sukhbir, who laid the foundation stone for a bus stand at Guru-har-sahai. Sodhi, who was not invited for the ceremony, claimed that the foundation stone was already laid in March 2006 by then CM Captain Amarinder Singh.

Apart from the bus stand,Sukhbir inaugurated roads worth Rs 9.67 crore from Guruharsahai to Jalalabad and from Mamdot to Ferozepur and Chak Mobian- Tahliwala at Rs 9.11 crore. Again,Sodhi claimed that the roads were built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, for which funds came from the Centre. Moreover, the roads had already been inaugurated by the local MP Sher Singh Ghubaya about a year ago,he said.

“The Deputy CM is thus wasting public money in re-inaugurating the projects while his government has no money even to pay salaries to employees,” Sodhi added.

The MLA said the land for the bus stand belonged to the co-operative marketing society. The process of ownership transfer took a long while,by which time the model code of conduct was in place for the 2007 Vidhan Sabha elections. The SAD-BJP came to power after that and now, seven years later, they re-inaugurated the project,Sodhi explained.

By this time, the cost of project had also gone up from Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.10 crore.
