‘Star’ power boost for polls: Rahul,Yechuri Maya to visit hill state

As campaigning gains steam in the run up to the November 4 Assembly polls,Himachal Pradesh is set for a ‘star’ shower with political stalwarts and Bollywood actors making a beeline to the hill state.

As campaigning gains steam in the run up to the November 4 Assembly polls,Himachal Pradesh is set for a ‘star’ shower with political stalwarts and Bollywood actors making a beeline to the hill state.

While AICC chief Sonia Gandhi set the ball rolling with her Monday rally at Mandi,her son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address meetings at Keylong and Solan in Lahaul-Spiti district on October 25.

Among others the Congress has lined up former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Motilal Vora,party general secretary Digvijay Singh,former Punjab chief minister Capt Amirinder Singh,Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scinda,actor and Firozabad MP Raj Babbar and Lok Sabha member Sanjay Nirupam to campaign in the state.

On its part,the BJP,which is hoping to retain power for a second consecutive term,too has roped in several big names including former deputy prime minister L K Advani,party president Nitin Gadkari,former party president Rajnath Singh,Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj,Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi,former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and actors Smriti Irani and Kiron Kher will also address rallies in support of BJP candidates.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP),which is contesting the Himachal Assembly elections for the the first time,has scheduled several of its national level leaders to visit the state. They include Union Minister Sharad Pawar,former MP Govendrao Adik and part secretary Bholabhai Patel.

The CPM is pinning its hopes on Sitaram Yechury,Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali,while the Bahujan Samajwadi Party candidates will have the party’s most known face and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister,Mayawati,campaigning for them.
