With the idea to make them smart,UT Senior uperintendent of Police Naunihal Singh has asked his officers to have smart phones which have the facility of accessing e-mail. This has been ordered so that no delay is caused in accessing official orders and responding to them.
The chowki incharge, unit incharge,Station House Officers (SHOs),Inspectors and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) have been asked to ensure that their mobile phones have the facility of e-mail,else purchase mobile phones on their own, which have the facility of e-mail.
As per a senior police officer, the decision has been taken so that undue delay caused in informing an official order to a police officer is not caused and that the police official concerned can quickly access the departments order via e-mail and quickly respond to it. The orders would include censure notices, departmental explanation or appreciation.
The department has made functional the facility of web access on the official numbers given to the police officials. To a certain limit, the department will bear the expenditure of the web accessed by the police officials.
When contacted, the SSP said that the decision was taken after a weekly review meeting. It was noticed,he said, that all those present had smartphones.
The facility is already with us,it is just that it was to enforced. Having the web facility is like having a parallel source of information. Not only official orders but important files from a crime spot including videos or pictures can be sent by the police officers, he said.
He added that complaints received by local residents on mail could also be sent by e-mail to police officers concerned for immediate action.
